Jawad Salkhordeh/

Musician

Jawad Salkhordeh was born in 1980 in northern Iran into a family of artists. As a child he came into contact with the traditional music of the region when he played with his uncle Abdolhasan Khosroo, a well-known voice of Mazandaran folklore. In 2004 he was accepted as a student by the well-known Tombak master Bahman Rajabi in Tehran. In Tehran he also improved his skills on the Daf and Setar (Iranian long-necked lute), on which he also regularly gives concerts. Many international concerts and studio recordings followed, including in Paris, Lyon, Rome, Hamburg and Berlin, as well as in Yerevan, Armenia. Since 2010 he has lived in Berlin and plays in numerous international ensembles. His work is characterized by the search for new sounds and the balance of two worlds, between tradition and modernity.

Duo Safar: With a drum set, percussion and classical Persian instruments, Jawad Salkhordeh and Jacob Przemus embark on a musical and experimental journey between modernity and tradition. A thoroughly cosmopolitan mix of powerful rhythms and subtle sounds that creates a new global sound and makes the “Duo Safar” a special listening experience.

Sayeh: Oliver Doerell and Jawad Salkhordeh finds themselves merging eastern and western sound in an absolutely absorbing record of electronic music dipped in Persian traditions. They create a sound with textures, rhythms, distortions, altered frequencies, voice insertions and blends reality and mysticism into a unique soundscape. The sonorities transpose a nostalgia for a world that never existed, a place where the two musicians find home.
