Following the release in 2017 of her first EP, ‘Crossing Borders’, which infused elements of pop, electro and rap into a warm soul groove, Strasbourg-born Selia will be in residence at Les Dominicains in 2021 to work on her second EP. Along with the two musicians who accompany her on stage, she will receive assistance in preparing the technical and staging elements of the tour that will follow the album’s release.
Selia developed an interest in music from an early age, influenced by her father who was passionate about gospel music. She then discovered soul, and this became the common thread which runs throughout her work, where her powerful voice combines soul and improvised gospel music with contemporary urban genres. In 2014 she won a Hopl’Award in the new discovery category, and is signed to the Parisian label Giro Music. Selia’s residency at Les Dominicains de Haute-Alsace, over two four-day stays, will allow her to finalise her forthcoming EP (mini album) and work on her stage shows with the help of a video producer and director, along with the sound designer Vladislav Isaev, who will re-mix one of her tracks. Les Dominicains will host the first of these performances.
