Animation director

Ricardo Kump (b. 1980) is a award-winning Brazilian animation director whose work focuses on collage and painting techniques.

Graduated from Film School (FAAP, São Paulo, Brazil), he started his career in animation as a motion designer. He started to develop his style while in France, working as animator on the documentaries "Viva Dada" (France, 2016), "Entre deux sexes" (France, 2017) and "La femme sans nom" (France, 2022). "The cactus” (Brazil, 2023), his first short as director, was selected for the most important animation festivals in the world, such as Annecy, Animafest Zagreb, Cinanima, Chilemonos, Kaboom, and major short film festivals such as Pöff Shorts, Bogo Shorts, Tirana International Film Festival, Vienna Shorts, and many others. It was awarded “Best Latin American Short Film” at Anima Córdoba 2023 (Argentina), “Best Ibero-American Animation” at Shorts Mexico 2024, “Best Fantasy Short Film” at the Festival Latinoamericano de La Plata 2023 (Argentina), “Best Latin American Short Film” at Anima Latina 2023 (Argentina), “Best Direction” at the Goiânia Mostra Curtas 2023 (Brazil) and “Best Film - Press Award” and “Best Art Direction” at Lanterna Mágica 2024 (Brazil). Ricardo lives and work in São Paulo, Brazil

Residency project:

“The Factory Beyond the Hill” is a project that emerged in 2024, born out of our desire to explore the fantastic realism in the works of the Brazilian writer Jose J. Veiga through animation.
