Call for Projects "Animated Stones" - Residence Fontevraud + NEF Animation

In the context of Christmas in Fontevraud, which will take place from Saturday 28 November 2020 to Tuesday 2 February 2021, the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, via its Cultural Centre and in partnership with NEF Animation, is entrusting an artist, a group of artists and an animated film director with the creation of a video mapping project for the western façade of the Abbey Church.

Prayer books, song books, illuminated books, these marvels of the Middle Ages largely disappeared during the Revolution when, transported out of the monastery, the boat that carried them, according to legend, on the Loire sank... Only a few of them have survived and some are kept in the departmental archives of Maine et Loire.
Inviting an author and illustrator of children's literature for a creative residency at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud is an opportunity to renew acquaintance with the great Hours of the Abbey's illuminated pages. Inspired by its history, its décor and what Fontevraud is today, the children's literature residency is the perfect opportunity for an artist to create a work celebrating the beauty of the Abbey in the heart of winter...
