/ Structure
Artist and researcher residencies are the core of the project's artistic research laboratory. Two types of residencies structure this component: residencies for the Permanent Artistic Research Group (GRAP) and temporary residencies for young artists (RP). They enable ongoing relationships between artists and users. This rich and multifaceted dialogue is one of the main focuses of the project.
The Permanent Artistic Research Group is made up of artists from all disciplines. They are already well established in their professional careers
The Occasional Residencies are offered primarily to young artists at the beginning of their professional careers. If they wish, they can benefit from the support of the artists of the Permanent Artistic Research Group. This unique relationship highlights the notion of support at the heart of the project. It also contributes to the search for new economic, social and solidarity-based approaches. The warm welcome given to the teams in permanent residence at Le Plessis is reciprocated by the support they offer to young artists.
Artists in permanent residence participate in operational decisions and artistic choices within the framework of the artistic committee.
/ Permanent Artistic Research Group:
Focus
These artists are welcomed for a period to be defined according to their research, which is not limited in advance. The Permanent Artistic Research Group is made up of theatre companies, musical ensembles or groups, interdisciplinary teams and independent artists. They come from all artistic fields: music, digital arts, literature, theatre, dance, visual arts, graphic arts and visual arts.
The artists of the Permanent Artistic Research Group are committed to supporting young artists in temporary residence by sharing their expertise.
Their research focuses on two areas of exploration:
- their own creative work, which will be shared with audiences and users as part of the shared programme.
- joint research with other members of the Permanent Artistic Research Group on common themes explored each season. This ‘work’ will be presented in shared events.
They form the Artistic Committee together with researchers and other professionals involved in the research. The Group is evolving according to the decisions of the Artists' Committee and can be enriched by proposals from other committees.
Given their permanent presence on the site, they are an integral part of the Third Place and thus participate in the Shared Third Place Committee.
/ Occasional residencies: general guidelines, specifications, members
General guidelines
These artists are welcomed for fixed periods, at their request and according to availability. They are selected by the Permanent Committee on the basis of proposals from the Committees.
They include young theatre companies, musical ensembles or groups, interdisciplinary teams and independent artists at the beginning of their professional careers.
The Occasional Residencies function as a real incubator, a support structure for young artists by providing rehearsal and work spaces, possible accommodation, exchanges with the public, the presentation of their work in progress, enrichment through the theoretical and programming tools of the overall project and professional support from the artists of the Permanent Artistic Research Group.
In this way, they contribute to the search for innovative approaches to a social and solidarity-based economy.
/ Other support proposals
The development of the overall project has been enriched by the creation of three innovative structures. LabTech Num, LabDoc LXI and Logis des artistes provide support for professional careers.
Lab Tech Num supports artists' research and enables them to enrich their artistic proposals through dissemination.
LabDoc LXI opens up new fields for artists and consolidates their professional careers.
The Logis des artistes is at the heart of the artistic employment support system. In close collaboration with professional organisations and unions from various sectors, the Logis offers administrative and logistical support for cultural projects, as well as training in fundraising.
/ Events organised by artists in residence
1. Creative process (Inspire-Expire)
The sharing of research carried out in residence makes the project unique by constantly involving the public and users in the work in progress: an experimental laboratory open to all.
Each research project takes place in a creative space consisting of:
an introduction to the research (Inspire) and a presentation of the work accomplished, analysis and discussion (Expire).
2. Creator's journey
A ‘carte blanche’ day and/or evening allows users and audiences to discover the journey of an artist or artistic team through a variety of offerings. The programme includes readings, videos, excerpts from works, analyses, concerts, exhibitions and performances.
They present the evolution of their creative journey to Les Plessis users.
3. Practical work
This allows artists in permanent residence to conduct joint artistic research regardless of their artistic discipline and individual projects. The research is informed by the historical and dramaturgical contributions of the members of the History and Heritage Committee, thus creating new shared spaces.
The Practical Work sessions are grouped together over a week: two days of research followed by a public presentation, with fifteen artists taking part.
All the artistic disciplines of the Permanent Artistic Research Group are included in the research: plastic arts, theatre, dance, music, visual arts, writing, sound creation, etc.
4. Other implications for residents
Artists in residence benefit from numerous opportunities to support their careers: programming of their creations in shared events or in the Lab'Arts Nomades, participation in EAC or Pôle Élan pour la Vie projects, etc.
