For Paulina Ziolkowska, content and form come together to create something which is bigger than the sum of its parts. In her projects, she seeks to combine her history with the art of animated film, which brings both an additional significance to her work and gives her increased creative possibilities.

Material, form and content complement each other in her works, and together create the final effect.

Following her studies in Art History and then Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland, Paulina Ziolkowska began to study direction and animated film at the Film University of Babelsberg, Germany. At the end of 2018, her training completed, she decided to apply for the 2019 international artist residency programme.

At the Abbaye Royale in Fontevraud, Paulina Ziolkowska was able to develop a brand new project, ‘Man leaves his house, but his house does not leave him’, an animated film which sheds light on the need we all feel at times to escape, to emigrate, to change our surroundings – a desire motivated by the pursuit of a better life. However she comes up against reality, in particular faced with her own inability to abandon old habits. The existential dimension plays an important part in the work of Paulina Ziolkowska, who looks to explores some of her own complex issues.
