The Argentine teacher and researcher Esteban Dominguez studies modern philosophy and the work of Louis Althusser.

Esteban Dominguez teaches at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario and is a doctoral student at the Concejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas in Argentina. Having written his dissertation on Louis Althusser, he continued to work on Althusser’s œuvre, producing articles for academic journals, undertaking research at the Università Milano-Bicocca in Italy and attending conferences. Esteban Dominguez currently teaches history of philosophy and contemporary political theory and is a member of the Cátedra Libre Baruch Spinoza, which carries out research on the political thought of Spinoza and its relationship with modern philosophy.

During his residency at the Abbaye d’Ardenne – IMEC, Esteban Dominguez made use of the organisation’s Althusser archive to conduct a research project entitled ‘Politics and history in the work of Louis Althusser. A study of his readings in modern philosophy in the light of contemporary political theory’.

His work was to result in a doctoral thesis on the significance of Althusser’s work in relation to pre-Marxian figures from the history of philosophy, such as Machiavel, Montesquieu and Rousseau.
