2019

The 2019 Edition of Beyond the Obvious focuses on cultural practices in non-urban territories. Culture Crops: cultural practices in non-urban territories sparks the debate on peripheral territories. Where does their territory begin and where it does it end? How do they see themselves and how are they seen by others? What are they and how do they work?

Register are open. On that occasion, an Open call for projects is open : Culutre-Crops-Agora. Deadline : July 22nd, 2019.

Culture-Crops-Agora is an informal forum that showcases local and European projects acting within the non-urban territories. The aim of the agora is to bring different perspectives from arts, heritage, agriculture, research, politics, activism etc., mix initiatives from Switzerland and Germany with similar projects coming from all over Europe and to create an open space for networking. 

Projects should respond to following criteria :
- be based on a dialogue with the social and environmental context, participation in community life, good governance and democracy, well-being within the non-urban context ;
- develop new forms of making a living for artists and cultural workers in peripheries ;
- deal with the decentralisation of cultural organisations, cultural contents and cultural work ;
- be on contemporary cultural creation and cultural and social innovation in rural areas, including cultural production, visibility, internationalisation, audiences;
- present alternative models for cultural and cultural heritage projects, including digitisation ;
- reflect and practise mobility for artists, cultural actors and cultural works between territories and in suburbia and the rural ;
- deal with climate change, including environmental impact, mobility and migrations, sustainable production, circular economy.

​Culture-Crops-Agora is part of the conference program and takes place on Thursday 24 October, from 4.30 till 6.30 at DreiSpitz in Kreuzlingen.
