Last week the 26 new European Commissioners have been nominated. The portfolio’s title of Ms. Mariya Gabriel, who is in charge of culture is  ‘Innovation and Youth. Therefore, there is no explicit mention of the vital words ‘Culture’ in any of the portfolio titles.

While acknowledging the reassuring fact that culture and cultural heritage are duly included in the mission letter which the President-elect has sent to Commissioner Gabriel, it is impossible to explain the decision of Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission to remove  ‘Culture from the job title of the new Commissioner Ms. Mariya Gabriel.

Culture Action Europe launched a public campaign (with petition) asking Ms. Von der Leyen to include the word ‘Culture’ in the portfolio’s title of Ms. Gabriel. The other European networks are also acting together for this cause. The 3.3 Alliance and Europa Nostra initiated an intense lobbying on a hight politic level.

The ACCR supports these actions and encourages to sign the petition.
