“Odyssée” artist-in-residency program 2017

With the support of French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the ACCR has been coordinating the Odyssée artist-in-residency program. Since 2003,  more than 500 artists and cultural professionals representing 73 countries have benefited from the « Odyssée » artist-in-residency program. The program is dedicated to artists, researchers and culture professionals, neither French, nor French resident, to develop projects within the Centres culturels de rencontre (CCR, Heritage Sites for Arts and Culture ). Many musicians, architects, craftsmen, visual artists, script and play writers, photographers, journalists and other professionals have enriched their practise from these residencies. The laureates are hosted by the CCR, in accordance with the projects carried out during the hole year. In 2017, as part of the « Odyssée » program, 14 CCR will host 43 artists from 20 countries.

The field of visual arts is largely represented this year. The International residencies and writing  grants for animated films are hosted and coproduced with The Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud in partnership with Annecy’s International Animated Film Festival and Studio Folimage. Among the selected artists supported are Boris PRAMATAROV (Bulgaria), Dahee JEONG (Korea), Ainslie HENDERSON (United Kingdom), David DELL’EDERA (Hungary) and Thanut RUJITANONT (Thailand). Led by the theme Desert and hospitality, the Abbaye de Noirlac receives an Iranian visual artist, Maryam DEHGHANPOUR,  who questions human unity by drawing portraits of people of different nationalities. The video-documentary artists Pierre HEBERT (Canada) and Sylvie LANDSMANN (Israel) are staying at the Abbaye de Saint Jean d’Angély, working on the imaginary representations of territories. The Château de Goutelas hosts two visual artists Gilbert GOSSELIN (Canada) and Priscilia AMONI (Brazil).  A Korean fine art artist Yang JUNG  during a 3-month-stay at the Domaine de Kerguéhennec will create an exhibition. At the Saline Royale d’Arc-et-Senans, Rémi VINCENT (Canada) will try to reinterpretate the cultural heritage codes. The Friends of  the  Château de l’Esparrou offer an outside-the-castle residency to an American photographer Steve GIOVINCO. Swiss artist Olga KOKCHAROVA is going to work in the Parc Jean-Jacques Rousseau on the sound mapping. The Dominicans de Haute Alsace have invited an Indian artist Harsha BISWAJIT who uses for his creations 3D and mapping techniques. Carmen CASTANEDA DIAZ, an artist from Spain who uses embroidery in her creative process, and Arkadi LAVOIE-LACHAPELLE, a Canadian visual artist, will be staying at the Chartreuse de Neuville sous Montreuil.

The performing arts and writing are not forgotten. Particularly involved in musical projects, the Abbaye Royale de Saint Riquier welcomes musicians Liudmila GEORGIEVSKAYA (Russia) and Thomas SCHWANN (Italy). Anand GUPTA, Anurekha GHOSH, Dinanath MISHRA, Sandeep MISHRA, four Indian dancers are residents in the Saline Royale d’Arc-et-Senans, their goal is to explore the possible common threads between Indian dance Kathak and contemporary dance. A Canadian artist Suzie BASTIEN will start writing a play at the Château de Goutelas and then at the Saline Royale d’Arc-et-Senans. Three CCR the Cité du mot, the Domaine de la Vergne and the Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, focusing on writers for the theatre, performing arts and cinema, will host Edouard Elvis BVOUMA (Cameroon), Kokouvi Dzifa GALLEY (Togo), Neda SHAHROKNY (Togo),  Vasilev YASEN (Bulgaria), Afi GBEGBI (Togo).  Canadian musician Gary WIDLAND will compose with youngsters with the friends of the Chateau de l’Esparrou. The Dominicains de Haute Alsace will receive a Tunisian musician Jasser HAJ YOUSSEF, during his stay he will discover the viola d’amore.

In 2017, French Heritage Sites for Arts and Culture will host four Chinese artists: Xiaochuan SUN, Ruijun SHEN who’s residencies in the Parc Jean-Jacques Rousseau will be focused on gardens, Yan KEQIN, cultural professional, painter and calligrapher will be welcomed both at the Abbaye de Fontevraud and the Dominicains de Haute Alsace and Li LI cultural manager will go to the Chartreuse de Villeneuve lez Avignon and the Abbaye de Royaumont.

Alongside with the Chinese artists, Parc Jean-Jacques Rousseau will host three Belgian philosophers from PhiloCité association, working on philosophy for youth, and a Brazilian researcher Luiz-Augusto Contador BORGES, who will compare the use of sentimental codes between Rousseau and Sade.
